PROGRAM TITLE: Discovering the Ancient Caribou Hunters of Silver Lake
PRESENTED BY: James R. Paquette
This particular lecture will focus on the results of the Silver Lake Reservoir archaeological survey project that Paquette undertook back in 1987-88, and then again, during 2002 through 2008. This slide/lecture program documents some of the oldest and most important archaeological discoveries made during Paquette's search for the elusive proof that Ice Age Paleo-Indians once lived--right here--in the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
On display at the lecture will be a collection of rare ancient stone spear points and tools that were left behind by the nomadic families of Ice Age and early Holocene hunter/gatherers who once camped and lived on the shores of Marquette County’s Silver Lake. They are indeed the Crown Jewels of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
